Today we’re going to be talking about the advantages and disadvantages of both artificial turf and natural lawn. We’re doing this because we think it’s fair to give our customers all the information they need before they make an informed decision about what’s best for them.

We strongly believe in artificial grass as a product so we’re naturally a little bias. We believe it’s by far the best surface for your garden. We’d like to recommend it obviously, but first what’s so great about natural turf.

NATURAL TURF VS ARTIFICIAL GRASS

Natural turf will always need a little more care and attention, but by regular feeding, careful mowing and weeding, your lawn can give you and your family much enjoyment over the years. A living layer of grass will offer much in the way of environmental benefits to the wildlife it supports both below and above its surface. If a natural lawn has been worn down with foot traffic or pests, it can recover over time with a little care and attention. Any old bits of turf can be composted directly back into the soil which you can’t do with old artificial grass surfaces.

SO, WHY THEN WOULD YOU WANT TO BUY ARTIFICIAL GRASS?

There’s plenty of good reasons to by artificial grass. Artificial grass has come a long way from its early days as a rather ugly fake looking surface. There are many different surfaces to choose from so you have the right artificial grass for your garden or commercial property. Artificial grass looks much more authentic than it used to and is so easy to maintain. It looks like real grass, but it doesn’t give you any of the hassle you get with real turf.

INVEST TO SAVE MONEY

Yes, there is an investment with artificial grass but it is worth it, because once you’ve paid upfront for your new surface, you won’t need to mow, water or throw chemicals on it ever again. That means you get your money back over time and that’s a worthwhile investment.

Any cut offs following installation don’t have to go on the landfill site, they can just as easily be used in other parts of the garden or even inside your shed or gazebo for a soft surface, or in the children’s bedroom. That way they don’t get wasted.

HAY FEVER

If you suffer from hay fever you’ll be able to go out more often and so will your children because there’s no natural grasses causing you to sneeze and cough. If you have pets, then any waste products can either be drained away through the surface of the grass, or any solids can be picked up and removed.

All in all, artificial grass is a lot less hard work, and you save money once you’ve installed it. You can use any offcuts again somewhere else as a novel surface and you won’t have to worry about mowing or watering any more. You also won’t have to worry about the sneezing and coughing you get with hay fever.
